As a sub-discipline of Public Health, Public Health Education seeks to introduce the required knowledge and skills of the individual and populace to the populace in order to make the right decisions about their health. Several topics that are introduced under public health education entail; disease prevention, choice of healthy lifestyle, mental health and diseases, and environmental health.

The idea for public health education is to make people avoid engaging in risky behaviors that would lead to all kinds of illnesses such as smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise among others. Thus, SMS can be used to target specific populations, and adjusting the behavior in this way would further help educators reduce the risk factors concerning chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Contemporary conception of public health also takes into account the social model of health, these are somewhat factors quality of income, education, and social context affect health status. Thanks to the progress in information technology processes, CDA and social networks in particular became available as informative and community engagement tools for large and diverse populations, which made it possible to have extended access to communities.
