Precision public health

Precision public health employs data and technology to create treatment approaches that address the unique healthcare needs of people. Precision public health involves the use of genomic data, health information analytics, and the environment to design interventions and risk reduction across large groups of people. This approach allows public health professionals to step away from the one-size-fits-all model and give better and more efficient health remedies.

Genomic information plays a critical role in precision public health because it targets specific genes liable to affect incidence and susceptibility to treatment. For example, based on genomics, doctors and health care providers can identify persons at increased risk of developing a particular type of cancer or cardiovascular disease and thereby prevent that through early screening and modification of behavior. Government agencies use these concepts to direct their funding and provided prevention services where most effective for the largest number of patients.

Subsequently, health data analytics is a critical enabler for precision public health by contributing patient data for high-level population health predictions, social demographics, and environmental factors. E-health, wearables, and sensors collect real-time data which enable public health workers to identify new health threats and then address them. This proactive approach also makes it easier to monitor dreaded diseases hence a proper response is done quicker hence improving the health status of the community.

Again precision public health also tries to cover issues related to health inequalities especially targeting marginalized groups. This is for the reason that the interventions used by this model consider the cultural, socioeconomic, and geographical factors hence improving the inequalities in the access to health care. It has been observed how applications based on data on social determinants can perform an optimal distribution of resources so that marginalized populations are provided with preventive care.

Precision public health turns the conventional public health approach on its head and heads towards a specific revelation of distinct populations for designing programs aimed at making life healthier and more productive.
